Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to nominate my stallion?
If you are paid by the first deadline it is only $100.00.
After that it goes up.
Does the stallion nominator win anything?
Yes they can. Unlike other futurities, when you nominate your stallion here you
can win money when your stallions get go grand or reserve in the Select classes!
For every Select
Grand the stallion nominator receives $100.00 and for every Reserve in the
Select the nominator wins $50.00.
Will you still hold the show even if you aren't going to have very many
stallions nominated?
No. We will cancel the show and refund all monies if we do not reach the minimum
number of 70 stallions. This assures our exhibitors that they will have a chance
at a decent amount of payback. We hope this will never happen but this is our
policy. Thankfully we have not had to cancel the show in four years.
Do we need to nominate the mare?
No. There are no additional nominations required. Only the required class entry
fees and Office Fee.
What paperwork is required to show?
By the date of the show you MUST HAVE ORIGINAL REGISTRATION PAPERS! You will not
be allowed to show on a breeders certificate. No exceptions. The state of
Nebraska requires current health and coggins when coming in from out of state.
If you have entered a non pro class, you MUST have a current Amateur or Youth
card. No temporary cards. Please make sure you have this complete before show
day. We cannot do this the day of the show. No exceptions.
What is the difference between the OPEN classes and the SELECT classes?
Any horse registered with one of our accepted associations
can show in the OPEN classes. The sire does not need to be nominated.
Only horses sired by a current nominated stallion can show in the SELECT classes
that year.
So how much is it to nominate my stallion to your futurity?
If you nominate on or before February 15th , it is only
$100.00 After February 15th the fees increases (see stallion nomination form)
So if I nominate my stallion this year, is it only the weanlings that can
show this year?
No, every year that you nominate, your stallions get can
show in any of the Select classes they qualify to show in, which would include
weanling halter both sexes, yearling geldings,
yearling mares, yearling stallions, yearling longe-line, 2 year old snaffle bit,
Junior Western Pleasure and Non Pro Western Pleasure all ages. So for
example, you have a 10 year old pleasure horse you are showing, you can nominate
that horses sire and show in the Non Pro in the Select Classes!
Do I have to own the stallion to nominate him?
No you do not. However, if you do nominate a stallion and
the stallion owner requests us to remove him from nominations, we will do so
upon their written request and refund your money.
It is always good, when possible, for you to discuss this with the stallion
owner but we do not require it.
So can I show both the Select and the Open classes?
Absolutely. As a matter of fact, most people show both
classes. Since the office fee is only paid once it is a pretty small amount to
add to have another chance to win. Sometimes the class is much different because
horses whose sires were not nominated are entered. Sometimes some from the
select do not enter the Open so it often changes the placings.
When are entry fees due and how much are they?
There is a one time entry fee for each class you want to
enter. The select futurity has an entry fee of $100.00 if you pay your entry fee
by the first deadline (see Select entry form for dates)
and then the entry fee increases over time. You also have a one time PER HORSE
office fee of $50.00. This is only due 1X per horse and helps us pay for
the show costs, judges, facility rental etc. The open futurity is a little
different. If you pay early the fee is only $50.00, however, you can enter this
class up to a designated time on show day for an increased fee. Office
fees are due and payable with entry fees. Until all fees are paid, entry will
not be complete so if sending on or near the due date, please be sure they are
correct as postmarks and fees are strictly enforced for everyone. We believe the
futurity cannot survive unless the rules are the same for everyone.
How much are stalls at your futurity?
Each horse that has entered a futurity class at the Five
Star Futurity will have a complimentary Friday night stall at no charge.
If you need additional stalls or tack stalls, they are $25.00 per night.
Can we come in the day before since we are traveling a long ways and need
time for our horses to rest.
We can make arrangements for this. Please let us know in
advance so we can make arrangements for someone to meet you there. Those stalls
will be billed to you at $25.00 per night (with the exception of any
complimentary futurity stalls Friday night)
Is there really a AQHA show going on at the same time? Wont I miss my
classes?
Yes there is a really good AQHA show going on during our
show. QHAN and Futurity Innovations , LLC work closely together to hold classes,
change showbills etc to make sure noone will miss their class in either arena.
QHAN has worked hard in 2010 to change their show-bill to accomodate Five Stars
showbill. In 2009 we actually held our show for more than 2 hours to allow
our exhibitors to show both. This should not be necessary in 2010 because of the
Quarter Horse Clubs work on adjusting their showbill. All we ask is that you let
us know if there is a conflict going on. If you are in a class in the other barn
(or your trainer is) you just need to let us know.
I also heard there is a APHA POR going on directly after the Five Star
Futurity, is this true?
Yes it is absolutely true. The APHA POR is in the same
barn the two days following the Five Star Futurity Challenge. If you show in the
Five Star and want to show Paints, you will stay in the same stall (no extra
travel, no extra bedding) We do not collect any stalls, or other fees for the
Nebraska Paint Horse Club. Your Sat and Sunday night stall fees will be paid to
them.
How do I reserve stalls for the Five Star Futurity?
You can either email
huntpaint@windstream.net or call Mo at
402-402-944-8153. There is no advance stalling requests as far as
placement. When you arrive you will be able to pick the stalls that you want
from whatever is unoccupied at that time. The only exceptions to this is
where someone is either bringing 10 head or more and needs a large block of
stalls or someone is bringing a stallion and needs a solid divider by himself.
PLEASE TELL US IF YOU NEED THIS SPECIAL
ACCOMODATION FOR A STALLION! There are
very few dirt stalls available in this facility. They will be allotted on a
first come first serve basis. Five Star Futurity entries will be the
only horses allowed in the dirt stalls on Friday night.
Can I reserve camping and how much is it?
Camping is on a first come first serve basis but there is
plenty for everyone. The camping is a bit of a walk from the arena.
Camping is 25.00 per night and you will pay us for Friday night (or any nights
you may have come in early for) If you stay for the paint show you will need to
pay them for the additional nights.
Can I bring my own shavings?
We are required to tell you that the Lancaster Event
Center requires you to buy your shavings from them. We expect every exhibitor to
purchase at least one bag of shavings for their horses stall on Friday night. We
do not make ANY money off these shavings and the Lancaster Event Center charges
8.00 a bag plus tax. We understand this is a high price for shavings and
hope that the complimentary stall we give you on Friday night will help make it
a more bearable cost. Again, the majority of the stalls in this premier facility
are on concrete so please prepare accordingly for this. We want you to know
upfront so you can be prepared.
Is there anything I can show my older halter horse in?
YES... We have put an all ages halter class together for all the older halter
horses as well!
Do only the SELECT futurity classes get buckles when they win?
Nope, our futurity is one of the few that, with the help of sponsors, gives a
GEORGOUS Gist Belt Buckle to ALL futurity champions, even in the open (jackpot)
portion of the futurity!
What is the champion of champions classes?
After all the halter has been completed, ALL the Grand Champions (all ages and
sexes) come back to show to the judges. The judges then judge that group (much
as you would a grand and reserve at a regular show) and the winner is named
Champion of Champions and receives a beautiful Monogrammed sheet ! The same goes
with the Western Pleasure horses. They will all come back to compete one last
time for the champion of champions! This is not required and there is no fee.
What is the Do Over Class?
The Do Over Class is available to anyone who competed in the Western Pleasure
portion of the futurity and did not place Grand or Reserve. The same rider
who rode in the class must ride in the do over class. The winner is
awarded a Gist Buckle. There is no fee for this class and it is not required
that you show in it.
How much does this futurity pay back?
This futurity pays back 85% of all nomination and entry fees every year. There
is no hold over. All funds collected each year are disbursed each year.
The stallion nomination money (85%) is divided evenly between all select classes
regardless of number of entries. 150.00 of that stallion money is taken off the
top of each class to disburse to the stallion nominator of the grand and reserve
in that class. The rest of the stallion money is added to the entry monies to
create the class pot. In the weanling divisions, the entry monies are divided
evenly between early and late regardless of number of entries in the class.
How do you determine cutoffs in the weanling classes?
the cutoffs are determined the day of the show by the birthdates of foals that
will be showing. If there is an odd number that foal will go into the age group
that is closer to its age than the other. Futurity Innovations reserves the
right to combine the early/late or divide into three age divisions if
entries warrant.
How can I help? Do you need help?
This show was created by a small group of people. At this time there are only
four of us working hard each year to make this happen. We are not rich. We are
not big breeders. We are just a small group of people who saw a need for an
affordable, fun futurity which under all circumstances held to its own rules no
matter who it was trying to get around them. We started this futurity with
500.00 each and except for a few business dinners we have not taken anything
from it. The truth is, without sponsors this futurity cannot happen! The
Gist belt buckles are expensive and in order to continue the tradition we
require individuals and companies to sponsor them. They are only 110.00 to
sponsor again this year. This gets you advertising , and also the pride of
knowing you are helping keep the futurity alive. We also take all kinds of prize
sponsorships! Our futurity believes that part of the problem is that the winners
who win always come back, but those of us who lose finally get discouraged. (who
wants to go home empty handed?) So we try hard to randomly give Valuable
prizes to those who may place down the line, or even last! This, to us is
one of the most IMPORTANT parts of the futurity. Sending everyone home a winner.
We are open to suggestions and would welcome your support in exchange for
advertising! The only thing we have decided not to take are gift
certificates which would almost certainly require an exhibitor to spend more
money to get anything. ie: 10.00 off any 50.00 purchase. It isn't
much fun to win a piece of paper that you will never probably use. There is a
sponsorship form on the web to use. Call or email us with your ideas and/or
sponsorship items!
